The Junior A grade girls tennis team from Macleans College played against St Kentigern’s on Saturday the 22nd September, in a battle for 1st place in the Auckland championship.
While their rivals St Kentigern’s proved too strong, the Macleans team fought hard and displayed some tremendous tennis skills. Being in the final itself is a tremendous achievement for Macleans College, and the team consists of very talented and promising players. They are sure to be strong contenders in the future and a team to watch out for.

On the 23rd of September, volunteers from the Macleans Environmental Group went to Motuihe Island to help prepare seedlings in the nursery so that they can be planted next year.

On the 21st of September, the Macleans Environmental group organized the park(ing) day event in the car park opposite the Art Block.
This was part of a global event, where for one day, people transformed car parks into actual parks for people to enjoy, raising awareness about the space that is wasted and the importance of sustainable transport.

The Macleans College Choir (MCC) won a gold award for the first time at the Big Sing National Finale, held in Wellington between 13 and 15 August.
The choir has attended the Big Sing National Finale for the past three years, starting in 2010. In 2010 and 2011, they were awarded silver awards.
On Sunday the 4th of September, The Macleans Premier Girls Netball Team travelled to Northcote for five days of intense competition.
After finishing a successful sixth in the Greater Auckland Secondary Schools Netball competition, the highest placing a Macleans Premier Netball Team has gained in twelve years, the girls had high hopes and excitement for the week ahead.
The Macleans College Girls Badminton A Grade team travelled down to Christchurch for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Nationals during tournament week.
The stormy weather and fork lightning along with the hail stones as big as ping pong balls did not stop them from achieving great results. They fought hard against top ranked Westlake School but had very close scores of 21- 18 and 21- 16. Macleans College won 5 out of their 6 ties and gained a well-deserved 2nd place.
On the 14th and 15th of September, Macleans College sent two groups to compete at the annual National Concert Band Festival, where they won a gold and silver award.
This year, the competition was held at Waikato University. Many competitors took part from all around the country, and the competition attracted groups who were school bands such as Macleans, as well as community and local bands.
‘The KBB Music Festival showcases secondary school orchestras, concert bands and jazz bands in Auckland.’ – KBB Music.
This year, the KBB Music Festival took place in the middle of August and lasted about a week. Macleans College entered 6 music groups compete in this event and came away with very commendable results. The groups consisted of the Senior Concert Band, Macleans Symphony Orchestra, Macleans Chamber Orchestra, Stage Band, Symphonic Band and Sinfonietta. Two of the standout groups this year were the Macleans Concert Band and the Macleans Symphony Orchestra, both receiving the most prestigious prize in their respective categories.
The Macleans College Chess team have secured a position in Nationals by placing in the Auckland Secondary Schools Regionals Chess Competition in the A grade division recently.
This was held at Auckland Grammar Schools’ Old Boys Pavillion building on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of September, during national secondary schools tournament week.
The Co-Curricular Evening celebrates the many co-curricular groups at Macleans College, ranging from sports to service and cultural groups.
Many elite athletes, musicians, artists, actors and more are acknowledged at this event for their effort, dedication and skill in their specialty areas. This year, the co-curricular night was held on Thursday the 13th of September.
