Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder affecting around 540 individuals in New Zealand alone. Based on statistics from 2023, the average person who suffers from cystic fibrosis has a life expectancy of only 61 years*.

In the open space of the amphitheatre on the 11th of June, Macleans students fundraised for CFNZ by setting up stalls filled with baked goods for Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand (CFNZ). CFNZ aims to increase life expectancy and quality of life to those suffering from the disease, through research in order to achieve better management and therapy related to the condition.

The bake sale was an activity that the Interact club hosted to raise money and spread awareness for Cystic Fibrosis NZ. The total of $843.40 will go towards CFNZ.

“We had over 50 bakers, providing the cookies, brownies, muffins… Along with the bakers, we had over 40 people help out with the stalls and a wonderful team of people designing the posters hung up around the school. In total, we had around 120 people involved in this activity.”

“We had meetings earlier in the term to organise everything so we wouldn’t have to rush anything. Everyone contributed their part and put effort into it. It was an immensely successful event… It was great seeing everyone who went down and bought something, contributing to the cause.”

  • Interact Executive Austin Yan (Snell) speaks on the success of the bake sale

A huge thank you to Ms Matthews-Ward for assisting with the organisation of this successful event.
